世界各地的泰国人民于12月5日为世界上在位时间最长的君主----泰国普密蓬·阿杜德国王陛下的生日举行了庆祝仪式。陛下的名字象征着“土地的力量，无与伦比的威力”，这也确切的反映出了国王的本性。国王陛下在位的68年间，他一直为了泰国人民的幸福生活而不懈努力着。

为了铭记他的不懈努力，国际土壤科学联合会于2012年4月16日第一次将“人道主义土壤科学家奖”颁发给了普密蓬·阿杜德国王陛下。2013年，第六十八届联合国大会指定每年的12月5日为世界土壤日，同时也指定2015年为国际土壤年。

On December 5, Thais all over the world commemorate the birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world's longest-reigning monarch The King's name, which literally means "Strength of the Land, Incomparable Power", clearly reflects his nature. The King has performed his royal duties to enhance the well-being of the Thai people throughout his 68 year-long reign.

In recognition of His Majesty's tireless efforts, on April 16, 2012, the International Union of Soil Science honoured His Majesty with the first ever Humanitarian Soil Scientist Award.

In 2013, the 68th United Nations General Assembly designated December 5 as World Soil Day. It also declared 2015 as the International Year of Soils.
